Peace, Love, and Tie-Dye

Tie-dye is an element of your summer soiree that shouldn’t be forgotten. Whether you use it in shirt form or as part of your decor, this simple tie-dye idea will add that pop of color reminiscent of the “far out” time period of the 1960s. Have guests bring their own shirts, tea towels, leggings, or any other white item, and they’ll leave with something colorful and unique!

Materials

  • White clothing, or other items

  • Soda ash

  • Powdered dye

  • Ice

  • Cooling rack

  • Large pan

  • Large vase

Directions:

  1. Soak your plain items in soda ash. Rinse them out, and let them dry.

  2. Put the cooling rack inside of the large pan. Place your plain items on top of the rack.

  3. Cover items with ice, and sprinkle the powdered dye on the ice.

  4. For best results, wait until the ice melts, then rinse out excess dye. Let your items dry.
