Here’s How You Can Still Enjoy the Outdoors This Summer

There are still plenty of ways to enjoy the season ahead—just check out some of these ideas!

Go for a walk Let this be the reminder you need to go walking more during these sunny summer days. As long as you bring a mask with you in case you run into people, there’s no reason you can’t enjoy the great outdoors. AllTrails is a great resource for finding a nearby trail, and the National Park Service is routinely updating the status of your local parks.

Take your book outside

Many people are reading more during this time, which is a great way to mentally transport yourself to a different place and time. Consider taking a book outside and reading on your porch, deck, or even taking a towel and sitting under a nearby tree.

Go for a swim If you’re worried about swimming right now, don’t be. Experts have weighed in, saying the virus isn’t waterborne, so you can still go for a swim this summer. Continue to keep a distance from people outside of the water, and be sure to check online for specific rules and guidelines at your location.

Play outdoor games

Volleyball, badminton, water balloon relays—the options for outdoor games are endless. This is especially true if you have kids who are more restless than ever. Here are some DIY water games (and how to play them) that will keep everyone in the family occupied this summer.

Flex your green thumb If you’ve always waited for an excuse to start a garden, now’s the time to get started. Pick an area outside that gets a lot of sunlight, determine what kind of soil you have, and decide what you want to grow. If you aren’t comfortable shopping for plants at the store, there are many online shops available for delivering plants and flowers.
